A bronze statue of an African-American woman has been placed in the middle of Times Square.
The 12-foot tall statue is named Grounded in the Stars and was recently seen by locals at Broadway and 46th Street. According to Time Out, the statue was created by Thomas J Price, a figurative artist from London.
The artist intended to represent the experiences and images of New York, Los Angeles, and London through this fictional character.
Times Square’s official site describes it as a symbol that brings together people from diverse backgrounds.
The Black Enterprise news outlet mentioned that the statue subtly references Michelangelo’s David and encourages deeper thought about humanity.
The large statue has sparked various reactions from residents and visitors, who shared their opinions on social media.
