5 Things You Should Never Leave in Your Car

Many people leave things in their cars without thinking if it is dangerous. Sometimes, we may not be conscious of the harm it causes, or maybe because they’re in a hurry or just forgetful.

However, some items can be dangerous or damaged if left inside a hot car, especially when parked under the sun. It may cause explosions, fire outbursts, or even cause fire to your vehicles.

Here are 5 things you should never leave in your car, even for a short time:

1. LightersLeaving a lighter in your car can be extremely dangerous. Most lighters are filled with flammable gas, and when exposed to high temperatures — like a hot car parked in the sun — they can expand, explode, or catch fire.

Even your car dashboard or seats can be damaged by a lighter explosion. It’s best to keep lighters in a safe, temperature-controlled place and never store them in the glovebox or console.

2. Perfumes and Body SpraysLike lighters, most perfumes and aerosol sprays come in pressurized containers. When exposed to heat, the pressure inside the can builds up and can cause it to burst or leak.

Not only can this ruin your car’s upholstery, but the chemicals inside can also become harmful when released into the air.
Take your body sprays or air fresheners with you — they don’t belong in a hot car.

3. Glass Items on the DashboardLeaving glass items like sunglasses, crystal ornaments, or even bottled drinks on your dashboard might seem harmless — until sunlight hits them at just the right angle.

These objects can act like magnifying glasses and concentrate sunlight onto your dashboard or seats, potentially causing burns or even small fires.
If you must carry glass objects, make sure they’re stored safely out of direct sunlight and heat.

4. Power Banks and Other ElectronicsPower banks are very handy, but they contain lithium-ion batteries — which are highly sensitive to heat. Leaving a power bank in your car, especially under the sun, can cause it to swell, leak, or explode.

The same goes for smartphones, laptops, and tablets.
Not only is this a safety issue, but overheating can also reduce your device’s battery life or destroy it completely.

5. Plastic Bottles or ContainersThat half-finished bottle of water you left in the car might seem harmless — but plastic can release harmful chemicals like BPA when exposed to high temperatures.

Over time, drinking from heated plastic bottles could affect your health. Additionally, bottles can roll under your pedals while driving and cause accidents, especially if stuck under the brake or accelerator.
