Man arrested over attempt to smuggle drugs into Kano prison

A 52-year-old man, Hamisu Mamuda, has been arrested for attempting to smuggle 12 parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp into Kurmawa Correctional Centre in Kano State.

 

The state police public relations officer, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, disclosed this in a statement released on Monday, April 29. According to Kiyawa, the suspect attempted to smuggle in the drugs with the intent to sell them to inmates.

 

 

The statement reads

“On 27th April 2024, personnel of the Nigeria Correctional Service attached to Kurmawa Correctional Centre arrested one Hamisu Mamuda, ‘m’, aged 52 years of Samegu Quarters, Kumbotso LGA, Kano State in possession of twelve (12) Nylon bags of Dried Leaves Suspected to be Indian Hemp wrapped in his jacket in an attempt to smuggle it into Kurmawa Correctional Centre with intent to sell it to inmates.

The suspect also confessed to the crime and is currently cooling his feet at the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for discreet investigation.”
