Gombe hospital bars staff from ‘mining’ activities during working hours

The management of the Federal Teaching Hospital Gombe (FTH) has prohibited its employees from engaging in  “mining crypto” while on duty.

The management said that it had noticed that the new trend is distracting workers from attending to patients.

An internal circular by the hospital stated that staff have the right to engage in other activities when they are not on duty.

Adamu Usman Tela, the deputy director of administration of the hospital, said on Thursday, September 19: “We took this step even before receiving any complaints, because taking care of the public health is the first thing.”

The circular added that “the Management has already deployed SERVICOM, ACTU and Security Officers around to monitor and ensure compliance with the directives.”

In recent times, many Nigerians have taken to tapping their phones continuously for hours on end in an attempt to “mine” cryptocurrency.
