According to the statement, the directive was meant to allow residents of the state to participate in the LG poll on Saturday.
“The Ondo State Government has declared Friday, 17th of January, 2025 as a work-free day for public servants in the state to enable them to travel to their various communities to exercise their civic responsibilities.“Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa urges all stakeholders to ensure a free, fair and peaceful local government election across the state,” read the statement.LG polls: Police announces restriction of vehicular movementMeanwhile, the Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC) has assured all that the Peoples Democratic Party withdrawing from the LG election would not hinder the electoral process.
The state’s PDP chapter, in a statement issued by its director of media and publicity, Leye Igbabo, announced its withdrawal from the election, stating it had no confidence in the electoral process conducted by the ODIEC.
Additionally, the state police command had declared the restriction of vehicular and motorcycle movement from 6 am to 4 pm on Saturday.
Aiyedatiwa sacks commissioners, SAs ahead of LG pollsElsewhere, Legit.ng recalled that Aiyedatiwa had sacked all commissioners and special advisers after dissolving the State Executive Council with immediate effect.
Ahead of the controversial LG polls, the governor exempted two cabinet members in the Justice and Finance portfolios from the dissolution of the executive ‘due to the critical nature of their duties’.
The governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Ebenezer Adeniyan, made the announcement about the dissolving the council in a statement issued Wednesday, January 15, via Facebook.

Seye Oladejo, the APC spokesperson in Lagos, said there is no truth in the report, and the party never referred to the council chairmen in its report.
According to Oladejo, the directive was that APC Chairmen at the LG level, who were also aspirants, were the ones asked to resign.
