The Ogun State Government has unveiled the official mascot, logo, and theme song for the upcoming 2024 National Sports Festival, tagged Gateway Games 2024, set to take place from May 16 to 30.
The unveiling ceremony, held in Abeokuta, was a major step in the state’s preparation to host Nigeria’s premier biennial multi-sports event, which brings together thousands of athletes from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
Speaking at the event, Governor Dapo Abiodun, represented by his deputy, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, assured Nigerians that Ogun State is fully prepared to deliver a historic and world-class edition of the festival.
“We are ready to raise the bar significantly, nearly two decades since Ogun last hosted this event. The mascot reflects the energy and cultural heritage of the good people of Ogun,” he said.
Governor Abiodun applauded the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for their tireless efforts and the state’s commitment to sports development through massive investment in infrastructure and facilities, which he believes will serve the state long after the festival concludes.
He expressed optimism that the Gateway Games would become a reference point in the history of the National Sports Festival, showcasing Ogun’s commitment to excellence and hospitality.
“Sport is a unifying tool and a stepping stone for athletes aiming for global glory. We urge all citizens to participate actively and warmly welcome guests before, during, and after the festival,” the governor added.
He called on stakeholders to support the event, highlighting the need for a collective effort to ensure the festival’s success.
