5 Popular Nigerian Socialites Arrested by EFCC

In recent times, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has been cracking down hard on high-profile Nigerians who break the law. 

From currency abuse to fraud and money laundering, some of the country’s most famous socialites have found themselves behind bars or in courtrooms.

These arrests show that no matter how wealthy or famous you are, you are not above the law.

Here’s a look at 5 known Nigerian celebrities and socialites who were recently arrested by the EFCC.

1. Bobrisky (Idris Okuneye)Popular internet celebrity and crossdresser, Bobrisky, made headlines in April 2024 when she was arrested for mishandling the Nigerian currency. She was accused of spraying naira notes at parties, which is illegal in Nigeria.

Bobrisky pleaded guilty to four charges related to currency mutilation and was sentenced to six months in prison without the option of paying a fine. She completed her sentence and was released in August 2024.

2. Ajayi Oluwabukola TemitopeBusinesswoman and socialite Oluwabukola Temitope Ajayi, based in Ibadan, faced arrest in August 2024. She was accused of defrauding clients of ₦25 million by promising to supply soft drinks but failing to deliver the goods.

Several victims reported her to the EFCC, leading to an investigation and her eventual arrest.

3. Cubana Chief Priest (Pascal Okechukwu)Celebrity nightlife entrepreneur Pascal Okechukwu, better known as Cubana Chief Priest, was arrested in April 2024 for publicly spraying and damaging ₦500 notes at an event.

He initially pleaded not guilty and was granted bail. However, by June 2024, the case was settled when he agreed to forfeit ₦10 million and to participate in public awareness campaigns warning against currency abuse. As a result, the charges against him were dropped.

4. Aisha AchimuguAisha Sulaiman Achimugu, a well-known businesswoman and socialite, was arrested by the EFCC on April 29, 2025, shortly after returning from London.

Her arrest followed a court order for her to appear before the EFCC over allegations of financial misconduct. Her lawyers have called her arrest unfair, especially since she reportedly came back to Nigeria on her own. Since her detention, Aisha has reportedly been on a hunger strike.

5. Emeka Okonkwo (E-Money)Famous music executive and Lagos socialite, Emeka Okonkwo — popularly known as E-Money — was arrested in April 2025. The EFCC accused him of spraying U.S. dollars at public events, which goes against Nigeria’s Foreign Exchange laws, as well as abusing the naira.

He was arrested at his home in the Omole area of Lagos, and investigations into his activities are still ongoing.
