EXCLUSIVE: Terrorists Attack, Burn Nigerian Military Base In Zamfara As Soldiers Blame Authorities For Poor Firepower, Equipment

SaharaReporters learnt that the gunmen launched an attack on the military personnel in Jangebe outpost around 3am on Saturday.

Some terrorists have sacked and burnt down a Nigerian military outpost in Zamfara State amid fear of casulaities, SaharaReporters has learnt.

SaharaReporters learnt that the gunmen launched an attack on the military personnel in Jangebe outpost around 3am on Saturday.

Jangebe is the Zamfara community where 279 female students aged between 10 and 17 were abducted by bandits on 26 February 2021.

The kidnapping had occurred at the Government Girls Science Secondary School, a boarding school in the community.

“Bandits attacked the soldiers and dislodged them; it just happened about 3am this morning,” a source told SaharaReporters.

The source however blamed the attack on poor firepower and inadequate equipment to combat the terrorists.

“Soldiers put in their best but there was lack of ammunition and there was no vehicle at the location and support weapons. So the bandits overpowered them and burnt down the location.

“No casualty yet but one soldier was injured and has been rushed to a medical hospital at the 1brigade HQ.”

Army personnel deployed for counterinsurgency operations in the Northern part of the country have been lamenting that those who were to relieve them three months after they were asked to leave the battlefield had yet to resume.

The soldiers also complained that they were being forced to confront Boko Haram and bandits, adding that their low morale and lack of willingness to continue to fight made it possible for terrorists to dislodge some military camps recently.

They alleged that many of their colleagues had been killed by terrorists due to poor firepower and inadequate equipment to combat the insurgents.
