Environment Canada issued a special weather statement early Sunday warning of rainfall amounting to between 10 and 20 mm in Ottawa. The statement also warned of localized flooding in low-lying areas and water pooling on roads, noting that the frozen ground has a reduced ability to absorb the rainfall.

Winds from the southwest were expected to gust up to 70 km/h ahead of a cold front in the afternoon. The statements also cited a “risk” of thunderstorms in the afternoon, ending by about 7 p.m.

Sunday’s high reached 16 C at 4 p.m. and had dropped to 12 C by 7 p.m. The overnight low was expected to be -2 C.

Monday’s forecast was for cloudy weather early in the day before clearing in the afternoon. The temperature was to continue to drop from a high of about 8 C early in the morning to -1 C late in the day. The overnight low was to fall to -8 C.
