How Tottenham Can Help Arsenal Get to the Final Tonight

Arsenal don’t usually take cues from their rivals. North London is fiercely divided, and for good reason. But tonight, in the heart of Paris, the Gunners might find themselves quietly drawing inspiration from the unlikeliest of places, Tottenham Hotspur.

Last week’s 1-0 loss to PSG at the Emirates wasn’t just a blow, it was history trying to repeat itself. Arsenal have never come back from a first-leg home defeat in Europe. Not once. Five attempts, five exits.

That’s the weight Mikel Arteta and his players are carrying as they walk into the Parc des Princes.

It wasn’t for lack of trying. PSG struck early through Ousmane Dembélé, stunning the home crowd. Gianluigi Donnarumma made life worse, shutting down Martinelli and Trossard with top-class saves.

And if not for a bit of luck, Barcola and Ramos could’ve added more salt to Arsenal’s wounds.

So, what now? This is where Tottenham come in. Yes, Tottenham. Back in 2019, Spurs found themselves in a similar mess. They’d lost 1-0 at home to Ajax in the Champions League semi-final.

Things got even worse in the return leg, they were 2-0 down by halftime in Amsterdam. And yet, with just 45 minutes to save their European dreams, Lucas Moura produced magic. Three goals. One comeback. One ticket to the final.

That kind of turnaround is rare. In fact, in Champions League history, only two teams have ever come back from a home-leg loss to reach the final. Ajax. Tottenham. That’s it.

And now, Arsenal want to be the third.

They’ll need belief. They’ll need goals. But most of all, they’ll need the kind of resilience Spurs showed six years ago. For all the rivalry, all the banter, even the most diehard Gooner might be quietly watching that Lucas Moura hat-trick tonight, not to celebrate it, but to believe it’s possible again.

Because if Tottenham could do it, why not Arsenal?

After all, football has a short memory. If Arsenal pull this off in Paris, nobody will care who did it first.

What do you think?
