Punjab doctor sets world record by treating rare 117-cm fistula using Ayurveda

A doctor from Punjab created a world record by successfully treating a 117 cm complex fistula, an abnormal connection between two body parts that normally don’t connect, using Ayurveda.

Dr Hitender Suri treated Swaroop Singh (47), a patient from Himachal Pradesh from the rare and severe problem, which extended from the anal canal to the feet.

Singh had struggled with the condition for years. Despite undergoing three unsuccessful surgeries, he continued to suffer from excruciating pain and an infection that spread to his stomach. After receiving Dr Suri’s treatment, Singh fully recovered in over four months.

“I was unable to walk or sleep due to the infection. Now, I am back to leading a normal life,” he told India Today TV.

Dr Suri’s achievement was officially recognised by the London World Book of Records. The honour was conferred at a ceremony in Dubai, where Union Minister Ramdas Athawale and World Book of Records CEO Adv Santosh Shukla attended.

Dr Suri has a history of record-breaking accomplishments.

On September 30, 2016, he, along with the Vidya Bharti Society, set a Guinness World Record by organising the largest pledge to healthy eating, involving 219 schools under the campaign ‘Eat Fibre, Stay Healthy’.
