FG to Close Ijora-Marine Bridge in Lagos for 21 Days

The Federal Government has announced that the Ijora-Marine Bridge in Lagos will be closed for 21 days, starting on May 18, for urgent repairs.

Mrs. Olukorede Kesha, the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, said in a statement on Tuesday that the closure will begin at 7:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 18.

Some parts of the bridge will be fully closed, while other areas will have partial closures during the repair period.

The repairs will include lifting the bridge deck to replace old bearings and doing other important maintenance to make the bridge safer and more comfortable for drivers and pedestrians.

Mrs. Kesha said she understood that this might cause some inconvenience but stressed that it is necessary to keep the bridge in good condition and ensure everyone’s safety.

She added that traffic diversions have been arranged, and traffic officers will be on-site to guide drivers and keep traffic moving smoothly.

She also asked residents, commuters, and businesses in the area to plan ahead and cooperate during the closure.

“Safety signs and traffic management tools will be set up to reduce disruption,” she said, while apologizing for the inconvenience and thanking everyone for their patience.
