15 Movies Like Sinners To Watch Right Now

From Dusk Till Dawn (1996) There is no movie experience quite like watching From Dusk Till Dawn without having any idea what it’s about or what comes next. So all we’ll say about this Robert Rodriguez-directed masterpiece of filmmaking is that it stars George Clooney, Quentin Tarantino, Harvey Keitel, and Juliette Lewis, and that it very much belongs on this list. If somehow you don’t know more than that—and you liked Sinners—watching From Dusk Till Dawn should be your new top priority.

His House (2020) One of the great performances in Sinners comes from actress Wunmi Mosaku. While audiences may recognize her best from shows like Loki or Lovecraft Country, she starred in the 2020 horror film His House—which finds the actress leading a story in a similar space. In the film, Mosaku plays half of a refugee couple who escape from war-torn South Sudan, only to relocate to England and find ghosts of the past haunting their new home.

Django Unchained (2012) Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained tells a big, bold, stylish neo-Western epic tale of a slave (Jamie Foxx) who gains his freedom and becomes a talented bounty hunter, seeking for his lost wife (Kerry Washington) along the way and going toe-to-toe with KKK members and plantation owners (one played by Leonardo DiCaprio) along the way. Django is an over-the-top, compelling, well-done story that should please fans of Sinners who want another pulpy tale in a period setting.

Blade (1998) One of the coolest movies of the ’90s (and the true start of the Marvel boom) was 1998’s Blade, which finds Wesley Snipes in his most badass role ever as the titular vampire hunter/Daywalker. Snipes, Kris Kristofferson, Sanaa Lathan, Donal Logue, and Stephen Dorff make for a fantastic ensemble in what’s just a one-of-a-kind awesome experience. Guys: The opening scene is a blood rave. Let’s be serious for a second here, this rules. Blade II, which is directed by Guilermo del Toro, is one of the best comic book movie sequels ever made, too. Will the Mahershala Ali MCU version of Blade ever get off the ground? We hope it does, but who really knows. But we’ll always have these Blade movies.

Near Dark (1987) Katheryn Bigelow’s Near Dark is one of the most underrated horror/western/thrillers of the last 30 years. The movie follows a cowboy who meets a woman in a bar… only to be bitten by her, turn into a vampire, and have to join her devious group as they hit the road. It’s gnarly, very cool, and, with Bigelow (The Hurt Locker, Point Break) at the helm, of course, expertly made.

John Carpenter’s Vampires (1998) Everyone knows that John Carpenter—of Halloween and The Thing fame—is one of the greatest horror directors of all time. But what less people know is that 1998’s Vampires might be his last great movie. The film follows a pair of vampire hunters (played by James Woods and Daniel Baldwin) who survive an attack on their team, and seek revenge on the villainous bloodsucker (Thomas Ian Griffith) searching for ultimate power. Carpenter is having a whole lot of fun here, and, well, he just knows how to make this kind of movie.

30 Days of Night (2007) Much like Sinners, 30 Days of Night is a movie about a group of people led by a charismatic movie star (here, it’s a local sheriff played by Josh Hartnett) who need to fight off a horde of vampires. Here’s it’s a little more contemporary: The title refers to a very specific locale in Alaska where there’s nothing but darkness for a 30-day stretch every year, making it the perfect place for a vampire feast. Sinners plays a whole lot with the vampire rule of needing to be invited in, and, obviously, 30 Days of Night plays with the rule that they can’t be out in the daylight. Obviously, there’s lots of blood and fighting here.

The Devil’s Advocate (1997)The Devil’s Advocate follows a ascending New York lawyer (played by Keanu Reeves) who takes a deal with an evil lawyer for endless success… an evil lawyer who turns out to literally be the devil himself. This movie is co-written by Tony Gilroy, who’s been one of the industry’s best screenwriters for the last 30+ years, and most recently helmed the masterful Star Wars series Andor.

Fallen (1998) Think of Fallen as something of an even pulpier companion piece to The Devil’s Advocate, crossed over with a little bit of Se7en. This thriller follows a detective (Denzel Washignton) who apprehends a serial killer, only for the grisly murders he was said to be committing to continue. Is it a copycat killer, or is this the work of a demonic spirit?

Fruitvale Station (2013)Fruitvale Station, the first collaboration between Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan, wasn’t a genre film at all, but rather a drama about the final day in the life of Oscar Grant (Jordan), a real-life man who was killed by the Oakland police in 2009. While this is an upsetting true story, it’s a tremendous debut film for Coogler, and shows the steps it took to establish Jordan as a leading man.

Longlegs (2024) Much like Sinners, Longlegs begins as a grounded story before evolving into something far more disturbing—and demonic. Nicolas Cage plays the titular serial killer who, if you’re a certain kind of viewer, will haunt your dreams for at least a couple weeks.

True Grit (2010)The True Grit remake from 2010 (directed by Joel and Ethan Coen) has become one of the most underrated major pieces of Western cinema in the last 20 or so years, despite the fact that it was nominated for 10 Oscars. The movie is full of brilliant performances, characters, and set-pieces, but perhaps most notably is the film debut for Hailee Steinfeld, who plays the young Mattie Ross. She would go on to play Mary in Sinners, finding herself back in a major role in a tremendously-made genre film.

Bone Tomahawk (2015)Bone Tomahawk is kind of like if Sinners was more grounded—and way, way, more fucked up. When a pack of cannibals (!!!) kidnaps settlers from a small town, the town’s sheriff (played by Kurt Russell) plots to save them and take the sicko baddies down. The rest of the cast includes Matthew Fox, Patrick Wilson, and Richard Jenkins. This is one of the zippiest and most rip-roaring neo-Westerns out there.

Fright Night (2011) Most people would probably recommend the original Fright Night (and it’s good too!) but we’re going to lean toward the 2011 remake. This story of a sexy, scheming vampire (Colin Farrell) living next door stars the late Anton Yelchin, and also includes a very stacked 2011 cast that includes Toni Collette, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Imogen Poots, Dave Franco, and a very fantastic David Tennant. It’s filled with vampires, it’s thrilling, and it’s very fun.

Freaky Tales (2025) Earlier this year, Lionsgate put out Freaky Tales, which pulls together four interconnected, occasionally supernatural, and always violent stories set in 1987 Oakland, California. The cast is stacked, with Pedro Pascal, Jay Ellis, and Ben Mendelsohn leading the way.
