Does the Silk’n IPL device that removes hair in 7 weeks work better than £1k in-clinic treatments?

Does the Silk’n IPL device that removes hair in 7 weeks work better than £1k in-clinic treatments?

It’s that time of year when many of us are craving silky, hair-free legs for the season of skirts and shorts. However, regular shaving can be a chore, and professional hair removal treatments at a clinic can be quite costly. A typical full-leg course of laser hair removal at a beauty salon would usually set you back around £200 to £300, potentially even more depending on the clinic.

While at-home IPL machines do come with a significant price tag, I’ve been testing this Silk’n 7 IPL device for the past ten weeks to see if the results justify the cost. Retailing at £499, this device is praised for delivering results in just two weeks, with an optimal usage period of seven sessions over seven weeks.

This means the at-home device costs less than half the amount it would to get seven in-clinic treatments at £200 each.

Now, I’m not suggesting this IPL device instantly eliminates the need to shave – you have to shave before every treatment. But it does promise that after the treatments, you’ll be completely hair-free for up to eighteen months, making it a perfect choice for this time of year when most of us don’t want leg or underarm hair, reports the Mirror.

But naturally, with a price tag that steep, the real question is – does it work?

Priced at £499 on Amazon, Boots, and Lookfantastic, this laser hair remover comes in a comprehensive set that caters to all your hair removal needs. It includes various plugs to fit your home outlets, three different-sized heads for precision treatments, a convenient travel bag for easy storage and portability, and a razor for immediate use.

You need to shave before using the device so that the light therapy can target the hair follicle from the root. This does make the process somewhat time-consuming, particularly when dealing with larger body areas like the legs. However, after a few weeks of use, you’ll be free from the need to shave for the rest of the season.

This IPL machine promises promising results as early as two weeks in. When applied to the skin, even at its highest setting, it doesn’t cause any discomfort or pain. The gadget features five intensity settings, so it’s advised to start from the first and gradually increase to five. But if you’re already familiar with IPLs, you can begin at a higher level without any issues.

This IPL machine is equipped with a cooling fan to prevent any heat or burning sensation during use. It’s also easily manoeuvrable, with a head that rotates 180 degrees, allowing you to reach more challenging areas, such as under the arms or around the bikini line.

Is this at-home hair removal device worth the £499 price tag? I’d say, without a doubt. While I didn’t see immediate results within the first two weeks of using it on my legs, I must admit that my hair is particularly fast-growing and coarse, making it a tough contender for most hair removal methods.

However, by week seven, there was a noticeable change in the speed of hair regrowth and its thickness. I decided to continue for a few more weeks to maximise the results, and by the tenth session, I was barely shaving any hair before each treatment.

This IPL gadget has been a godsend, allowing me to enjoy an entire summer free from leg and underarm hair regrowth. Yes, £499 is a hefty sum, but when you factor in the savings from avoiding costly clinic visits and the time saved from not having to shave for months on end, this Silk’n 7 proves its worth every penny.

I’ve also tried the Braun IPL Silk-Expert Pro 5, which is currently discounted on Amazon for £389.99, down from £739.99. Another device worth considering is the Philips Lumea 8000 Series IPL Hair Removal Device, retailing for £509.99 at Boots.
