Nigerian Lady Under Fire for Querying Inheritance of Late Footballer Diogo Jota

A Nigerian lady has faced significant backlash for a question about the properties of the late Liverpool star, Diogo Jota.

Diogo Jota and his brother André Jota tragically died in a car crash in Spain on July 3, 2025.

A Nigerian lady identified as Makeup Affairs on Instagram has come under heavy criticism after publicly questioning the inheritance rights of the late Liverpool footballer, Diogo Jota.

Jota and his brother, André Jota, tragically lost their lives in a car accident in Spain on July 3, 2025. The news of their sudden passing sent shockwaves through the global football community.

However, controversy erupted when Makeup Affairs took to Instagram to ask whether Jota’s newlywed wife, Rute Cardoso, would legally inherit his properties and assets. Her inquiry, posted just days after his death, drew backlash from many who deemed the question insensitive and poorly timed.

In her post, she wrote:

“Out of curiosity, will the wife get his properties because it’s just 11 days after wedding. So will the wife have access to all his properties and assets?. Please don’t insult me na question I ask”.

Jota and Rute were married on June 22, 2025, just 11 days before his untimely death. The couple had been together for over a decade, having met during their high school years in Porto, Portugal.

Despite her claim that the question was asked out of mere curiosity, many social media users slammed the influencer for being disrespectful so soon after the tragedy. Some urged her to show more compassion, especially given the grieving state of Jota’s family and widow.

As the conversation continues online, the post has reignited debates on boundaries, sensitivity, and how soon is “too soon” to raise legal questions after a loss.
