Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has sparked fresh political conversations after hinting at another presidential bid in 2027, while vowing to launch a fierce crackdown on corruption if elected.
In a video shared on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Atiku, speaking in Hausa, made a strong declaration:
“I swear to God, if elected, whoever steals or engages in any corruption-related activities, we will declare war against them and they must be punished.”
Atiku, who contested the 2023 presidential election under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), appears to be repositioning politically. Though he has not formally announced his departure from the PDP, his active involvement with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition suggests a significant shift in alignment.
The ADC-led opposition coalition recently underwent a major restructuring, naming former Senate President David Mark as its Interim National Chairman and former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola as Interim National Secretary, a move many believe is part of strategic preparations ahead of the 2027 elections.
As discussions around the next election cycle begin to heat up, Atiku’s anti-corruption promise and political realignment have sparked a wave of reactions from Nigerians across different platforms.
