Victoria Island, Lagos state – Muhammadu Sanusi II, a former emir of Kano, on Wednesday night, March 6, wept while paying an emotional tribute to Herbert Wigwe, the late group managing director (GMD) and the chief executive officer (CEO) of Access Bank Plc.
Wigwe was among six people who died on February 9, 2024, after a helicopter in which they were travelling crashed near Nipton, California, USA.

He continued:
Everyone who knew Herbert knew not one compliment paid to Herbert was untrue.One the day he died, I had a big ceremony in Abuja, I had no idea what was happening. I came to the airport, waiting for a plane, and I got a call from Bola Adesola who said, ‘Lamido, you haven’t heard, you haven’t hear about Herbert?’ And I said, what? And she said this was what she was hearing.Sanusi said around 2022, he put all his savings into a trust and entrusted Wigwe with it for the education of his (Sanusi’s) children.

I told Herbert, ‘I am placing you in charge of this trust for the education of my children because I know that even if I die, I did not leave any money, you would educate my children’.
