Analyzing the Recent Incident in Edo State: A Call for Honest Reflection

I recently came across a disturbing video showing the brutal treatment of Hausa individuals caught with concealed weapons in a trailer in Edo State. While I strongly condemn jungle justice, I believe it’s essential to examine the underlying issues that led to this incident.

The claim that these individuals were “hunters” is unconvincing. It’s unusual for Northerners to travel to the South with weapons for hunting purposes. The lack of transparency about their true identities and intentions raises suspicions.

Furthermore, the question remains why these individuals were not handed over to the authorities. The answer lies in the widespread distrust of the police and the justice system. Numerous instances of Fulani individuals being released despite committing crimes have eroded confidence in the authorities.

The recent sentencing of a farmer to death by the Nigerian Supreme Court for defending himself against Fulani attackers underscores the perceived bias and corruption within the justice system.

In this context, it’s understandable that people might take matters into their own hands. However, this doesn’t justify jungle justice, which can lead to further violence and chaos.

The root cause of this issue lies in the failure of the government to address the underlying problems. The lack of accountability, corruption, and ethnic bias has created an environment where people feel compelled to take the law into their own hands.

Ultimately, the solution lies in dividing the country to allow different regions to self-govern and address their unique challenges. The current geopolitical structure is unsustainable and suffocating.

Let us reject jungle justice and work towards creating a more just and equitable society. However, we must also acknowledge the systemic issues driving these incidents and seek meaningful solutions.
