Ottawa police have arrested a second man in relation to a February homicide.

Samuel Laurin-Gauvreau, 25, of Ottawa, was arrested on an outstanding Canada-wide warrant in the Feb. 15 stabbing death of Omar Jonathan Grant, also 25.

Laurin-Gauvreau was scheduled to appear in court on March 18.

Soon after the stabbing, Jacob Blanchard, 25, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder and assault with a weapon.

It was announced at that time that a nationwide warrant had been issued for the arrest of Laurin-Gauvreau, who was facing identical charges.

Police were called to a highrise apartment building at 500 St. Laurent Blvd. at about 9:25 p.m. on Feb. 15 for a “disturbance,” police said at the time.

Police said a 25-year-old male was discovered at the residence.

Ottawa paramedics transported two men to hospital after receiving a call to the address at about 9:30 p.m., and first man had “penetrative trauma” and was pronounced dead at hospital.

A second man, in his 30s, was taken to hospital in stable condition with a head injury, paramedics said.
