FCT, Abuja – The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected the results of the Saturday, September 21 governorship election in Edo state.
Legit.ng reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo as the winner of the election.

Source: FacebookOkpebholo garnered 291,267 votes to defeat his closest rival, Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who secured 247,374 votes, while Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party (LP) received 22,761 votes.
The acting PDP National Chairman, Amb. Umar Damagum claimed the people of Edo state voted for the party’s candidate, Ighodalo, and expect nothing less than him being announced as governor-elect.
Damagum announced this at an ongoing media briefing in Abuja, on Monday, September 23.
He disclosed the party’s plan to head to court to challenge the results declared by INEC in a video of the media briefing shared via the PDP X handle (formerly known as Twitter) @OfficialPDPNig
“The PDP therefore unequivocally rejects the final result of the Edo State Governorship election as declared by INEC as it did not meet the minimum standard for democracy”Damagum charged the INEC to retrace its steps by using the window left in the Electoral Act to do the right thing.
The PDP boss said the party had raised the alarm of APC plans to work in cohorts with “the compromised INEC and the AIG of Police in charge of the zone,” to manipulate the process long before they executed their plot”.

The PDP warned INEC against announcing results that do not reflect the will of the people of Edo state.
The PDP National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, claimed that the PDP candidate, Asue Ighodalo won the governorship election in Edo state.
