The closed-door meeting between the president and the senate’s leadership followed the suspension of Senator Abdul Ningi of Bauchi Central and a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmaker.

The embattled senator said the House had passed the N25tn budget after being debated, but the Tinubu-led federal government was currently implementing a budget of N28.7tn.
On Monday, March 11, the suspended senator insisted that N3.7tn, which President Tinubu is currently implementing, could not be accounted for in the 2024 budget.
After about three hours of deliberation by the Senate on Tuesday, March 12, the senate resolved to suspend Ningi for three months.
Soon after the senate concluded its plenary, the leadership of the house met with President Tinubu at the presidential villa.

Ningi’s resignation letter was sighted barely an hour after the senate suspended him over allegations of budget padding.
