Justice Rahman Oshodi of the Ikeja Special Offences Court has rejected a plea from the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele.
Emefiele had challenged the court’s right to judge him on charges related to abusing his office, involving sums of $4.5 billion and N2.8 billion.
In his decision, Justice Oshodi confirmed that the court does have the authority to proceed with the trial against Emefiele.
This ruling came after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) provided sufficient evidence establishing the court’s territorial jurisdiction over counts eight to 26 of the charges, which are supported by facts in the evidence presented.
However, the court decided to dismiss the first four counts of the charge, which also pertained to allegations of abuse of office.
