Covering of number plates is against the provisions of the National Road Traffic Regulations. Punishment ranges from fines to prison terms – Lagos police PRO, Benjamin Hundeyin, educates Nigerians

The spokesperson of the Lagos state police command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, has cautioned Nigerians against using covered vehicle number plates without getting proper authorization from the Nigeria Road Safety Corps FRSC.

Nigerians cover their plates number for security reasons while some others see it as a status symbol.

In a post shared on X, Hundeyin stated that illegal covering of vehicle plate number attracts fines or prison terms when a person is convicted. His post reads

‘’Covering of number plates is against the provisions of the National Road Traffic Regulations. When convicted, punishment ranges from fines to prison terms.

Ignorance is not an excuse under the law. Above all, forewarned is forearmed!”
