Davido Says His Hiatus Left a Void in the Industry: “Even My Haters Wanted Me Back”

Davido Says His Hiatus Left a Void in the Industry: “Even My Haters Wanted Me Back”

When Davido disappeared from the spotlight in 2022, the silence was loud.

He had just suffered an unimaginable personal loss — the kind that knocks the air out of your chest and makes the world feel meaningless.

For months, the usually vibrant, ever-present megastar went quiet. And so did parts of the music industry.

In a recent interview on The Ebro Show on Apple Music, Davido opened up about what that time felt like — both for him and for his fans.

“I was seeing tweets like, ‘Damn, it’s so quiet out here. David, please come back.’ Even people who didn’t like me were like, ‘Please come back, we need to diss you.’”

The grief was heavy, but so was the love. Fans didn’t just wait — they prayed, posted, and organized tribute events.

One of the most moving moments came when he made a surprise appearance at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

It was his second time stepping out in public since the tragedy, and it reminded the world why Davido isn’t just an artist — he’s a symbol of resilience.

Then came Timeless — an album that lived up to its name. It wasn’t just a comeback; it was a statement. The project broke records, birthed hits like Unavailable and Feel, and earned Davido Grammy nominations. More importantly, it reminded fans that he wasn’t done — just healing.

Now, in 2025, Davido is in motion again — louder, bolder, and maybe even more intentional. His fifth studio album, 5ive, dropped on April 18 with features from global stars like Victoria Monét, Shenseea, Dadju, and Tay C. And once again, he’s making history.

With his latest single With You (featuring Omah Lay) debuting at No. 1, Davido has now scored No. 1 hits for six straight years on Nigeria’s TurnTable Top 100. No other artist has done that.

But he’s not stopping there.

Next up is the 5 Alive tour — 13 dates across major cities, culminating in what may be the biggest show of his career: a sold-out performance at the 60,000-capacity Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.

He’ll be sharing the stage with 50 Cent and Mary J. Blige, two legends whose journeys mirror his in more ways than one — longevity, pain, and power.

Davido’s story isn’t just about music anymore. It’s about how to lose everything and still find your voice. About how to go quiet — and still come back louder than ever.
