Edo Assembly speaker, others defect to APC

Blessing Agbebaku, Speaker Edo State House of Assembly, two members of the House of Assembly; five former members of the House and a PDP aspirant in the Edo 2020 Governorship election have defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The 18-local government chairmen and councilors in the one hundred and ninety-two wards of the State also joined the APC.

Receiving the defectors on behalf of the national chairman, the national secretary of the APC, Ajibola Bashir, noted that the good governance and leadership style of Governor Monday Okpebholo made it possible for former members of the APC to come back to the party.

He expressed confidence that with the complete structure of the State now in APC, the re-election of President Bola Tinubu would be a smooth-sailed.

On his part, Governor Monday Okpebholo tasked the defectors to take seriously the re-election campaign of President Bola Tinubu, noting that the president’s financial transparency had made more money available for States to execute more developmental projects.

Former governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomole and other party leaders expressed confidence that the APC woukd win all upcoming elections in the State.

Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Blessing Agbebaku, Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, emphasised that the developmental strides of the governor led them to join the APC.

With the defection of the speaker and two other members, the APC now has 18 members while the PDP has 6 in the 24-member Edo State House of Assembly.
