Edo senator boosts cashew farming with distribution of 10,000 seedlings to farmers

As part of the contribution to the development of the non-oil sector, Neda Imasuen, the senator representing Edo South senatorial district on the platform of the Labour Party, has commenced the distribution of 10,000 cashew seedlings to farmers.

Imasuen distributed the cashew seedlings to members of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) in his Senatorial district in Benin on Tuesday. Speaking at the event, the Senator representing the Senatorial district at the national assembly advised landowners to take to farming.

The 10th national assembly member,  who was represented by Derrick Uhunmagho,  his legislative aide, opined that farming is the way to go for the common man. “If you have land, you’re a potential farmer. Instead of planting flowers that have little or no economic value, I advise everyone to plant productive crops that will yield cash benefits”, he said.

In his speech, Bako Dogwo, the Edo State Chairman of AFAN, described the Senator as a man who has brought smiles to the faces of farmers in Edo South. Dogwo disclosed that no fewer than 1,200 farmers will benefit from the first phase of the distribution, with each farmer getting 300 seedlings.

He said the remaining seedlings would be distributed to other farmers after profiling them. “Cashew is a lifetime investment. In the next three years, we will start to reap a great yield from the seedlings.

“He had earlier distributed 1,200 bags of fertiliser to our members. We thank him and we beg him to do more because farmers are proud of him,” he added. He, however, urged Nigerians to key into the farming revolution because it is the way to the future for the common man.

Speaking on behalf of members of AFAN, Osama Osaro, Edo South Vice Chairman, thanked the senator for providing the cashew seedlings to boost farming in the Senatorial district. According to him, this is going to be a plus to what we are doing. We’re very grateful, but we want to encourage him to do more.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Ben Edo-Osagie Florence, described the gesture as “very marvelous”. Florence added that Neda Imasuen has shown his constituents that they should be strong in their farming business.
