Fat Face’s £65 fisherman sandals are the best lookalike I’ve found for Dr Martens’ £150 pair

Fat Face’s £65 fisherman sandals are the best lookalike I’ve found for Dr Martens’ £150 pair

Summer is synonymous with sandals, and the fisherman sandal is undeniably this year’s must-have style. Dr Martens was one of the first brands to embrace the trend, launching its Wrenlie Sandals at a price tag of £150. If you’re lusting after these but want to save some pennies, Schuh currently has them on sale for just £109.99.

But if you’re looking to save even more, Fat Face’s Elodie Tan Brown Fisherman Sandals are a steal at £65.50, and they bear a striking resemblance to the pricier pair. I couldn’t resist snapping them up to see if they lived up to the buzz.

First off, they’re superbly crafted. The Elodie Fisherman Sandals are made from genuine leather with a soft, flexible suede finish that ensures they don’t chafe or cause blisters, even on the first wear.

The inner sole is also real leather and boasts a soft cushioning that allows you to wear them all day without discomfort, as it absorbs the impact of each step. My only minor quibble is that the leather sole can make your feet feel a bit sweaty in hot weather, although the cage design does allow for quick cooling.

They secure with an adjustable buckle around the ankle which offers a good range of holes so you can fasten them as tightly or loosely as you prefer. The platform sole is brilliant for adding a bit of height and is flexible enough to move with your feet as you walk.

Fisherman sandals are the epitome of effortless chic, blending quirky and androgynous vibes that make them a versatile addition to any wardrobe. Whether you’re a fan of barrel-leg jeans or flowy bohemian dresses, these sandals can seamlessly integrate into your style. And, despite being a current trend, they possess a timeless charm that ensures they’ll remain a staple for years to come.

For a more refined look, consider the Ida Fisherman Sandals from Mafalda, available in rich burgundy and green leather. These feature a sleek, leather-caged design with a narrower, squared-off toe. Alternatively, the Willow Fisherman Sandals from Free People boast a softer, more rounded silhouette with leather straps and a trio of colour options.

Over at Schuh, Vagabond’s Ellis Fisherman in Brown is currently on sale, reduced from £130 to £89.99. These sandals showcase a suede cage design reminiscent of my Fat Face pair, but instead of a platform sole, they feature a low block heel, making them ideal for dressing up for summer weddings or dinner dates.

However, for me, the standout winner is Fat Face’s Elodie Fisherman Sandals. Not only are they incredibly lightweight and comfortable, but they also exude an air of luxury and trendiness while remaining timeless, reports the Mirror.

As a new launch, they currently have only five reviews, but each one is a glowing five-star endorsement. Reviewers rave about how they “feel like air” and are “the best sandals I have worn in years” – sentiments I wholeheartedly agree with.
