A Quebec man has been charged with human trafficking and numerous other offences after a female was intentionally struck by a vehicle in the downtown core, the Ottawa police said.

The investigation began June 6 after a female was hit in the early morning hours by a vehicle in the Laurier Avenue West area near Metcalfe Street, police said in a Monday afternoon news release.

Marc Jean-Pierre of Pointe Aux Trembles is charged with aggravated assault, trafficking in persons by exercising control, material benefit resulting from trafficking in persons, material benefit from sexual services and eight other related offences.

Investigators believe there may be other victims of human trafficking related to this investigation.

Jean-Pierre is alleged to have used the aliases of “Mike” and “Marcus”.

The police are seeking witnesses with information about the June 6 incident. The Human Trafficking Unit will respect victims’ wishes on whether to pursue criminal charges, and can offer resources for human trafficking survivors.
