The Rideau Valley Conservation Authority issued the advisory late this past week, citing unseasonably warm temperatures and a weather forecast calling for as much as 25 millimetres of rain.

“The forecast remains variable and although no significant flooding is expected at this time, localized flooding is possible. Also, rapidly melting snow could impact all waterbodies across the Rideau Valley, leading to flooding in low-lying areas as well as ditches and stormwater features,” the advisory said.

Besides the flood watch for North Gower, south of Ottawa, the RVCA said a “flood outlook statement” was is in effect for the rest of the Rideau Valley watershed, along with a general water safety statement advising caution around all waterbodies.

Ottawa residents can check flood risks for their areas using the RVCA’s Neighbourhood Flood Maps.
