This afternoon, I was lying on my bed oo, thinking about my life, when my phone began to ring
“Who be this strange number na?” I said silently, staring at the phone
The phone rang again and again.
I reluctantly picked it as it ring again
“Hi baby, it’s Amarachi,” the strange caller said
“Amarachi kwa?” I asked, “From where?”
“Amarachi from Benue,” she explained, “This is my second line. My bigger phone is off. You’ve f0rg0tten me na. I’m in Abakaliki. I came for a conference, but I’m stránd£d right now. The person I’m supposed to stay in her h0use disapp0iñted me. Is your house free? Can I stay for 1 week in your house?”
“Of course, my house is always available,” I replied immediately, “Where are you so I can come and pick you, right away? Hospitality’s my second name”
“I don’t even know where I’m,” she responded, “You know I’m new here. Just tell me where you’re so I can tell a bike to take me there”
“OK,” I said, excitedly, “Tell any bike man you stop to take you to no3 Igwenyi Street. Enter the gate. I live downstairs, the window painted red”
Some minutes later, I heard a kn0çk on my door
“Who’s there?” I asked
“Baby, it’s Amarachi,” she replied
On hearing the name, I flew from my bed to the door
“Is this Ojay Ogbanje?” she asked
“Yeah,” I eagerly replied, Amarachi, right?
“Yeah, l’m Amarachi from L0áñAfrica.”
Immediately I heard ‘L0anAfrica, I fáiñt£d
“Jesus!!!” she ah0ut£d in f£ár, “I only came to c0llect the l0an you t00k from us that’s been due for repayment since February 29, 2020..”
“Madam don’t worry,” a police officer that came with her said, “No be Ojay again. I came with Oraimo c0rd. That’s his anti-fáiñtiñg m£dicáti0n”
On hearing Oraimo c0rd, I got up immediately…
