A Nigerian man identified as Martins, a self-acclaimed film director, has stirred heated reactions online after declaring that he would never “settle for less” by marrying a woman who is financially unstable.
In a viral post shared by entertainment platform Yabaleftonline, Martins boldly stated that despite his growing personal achievements, including building a house, owning properties, and investing in himself, he would never consider a relationship with a broke woman.
“I built my own house, own properties, and plan to get a car soon. I’m also investing in myself. I’m not going to settle for a woman who’s broke sha,” he wrote.
He went further to say that he doesn’t want to become a “financial breakthrough” for any woman or her struggling family.
“Later on, her broke families will be viewing me as their financial breakthrough. God forbid!”
The post, which has since gone viral, sparked a mix of support and criticism from social media users. While some applauded his standards and echoed similar sentiments, others accused him of being materialistic and dismissive of women who are still finding their footing in life.

Don’t marry a girl from a broke family. Dem no dey tell person. I am glad I avoided that pitfall, and my life is at ease. My resources are for my family alone, and I am not training any in-law or supporting any in-law. I have peace.
