HIGH SCHOOL GHOST EPISODE 7

Aishat walks closer to her house with Stephanie ghost trailing her from behind. This time, Stephanie ghost is not trying to get Aishat’s attention anymore, as she had already concluded that Aishat can not see her.

Aishat’s mom stood at the window, attempting to hang new curtains, when her eyes caught sight of Aishat a few meters away from home.

She took a closer look at Aishat and saw a ghostly figure following her from behind.

“Wait a minute, who or what is that behind my daughter? What does this ghost want with my daughter?” she asked herself with a concerned look.

As Aishat walked into the house, her mom quickly slammed the door shut behind her immediately, as if it were possible for the door to prevent Stephanie ghost from getting in.

After slamming the door shut, Aishat mom didn’t wait to catch her breath. She quickly rushed to the window side again with her heart still racing with fear and concern.

She slowly pulled back the window curtain and peered outside, expecting to see the ghostly figure trying to gain entry into their home.

But to her surprise, Stephanie’s ghost wasn’t even attempting to get inside. Instead, it simply turned and walked straight into the next apartment beside their house, as if it had been invited in there.

Aishat’s mom stood at the window, still lost in her thoughts, and had no idea when she began to soliloquize out loud.

“Why would the ghost go to Mrs. Alagbe’s house? Of all places, why there? She’s our good neighbor and our good customer too… What business could a ghost possibly have with them in that house?”

“Wait, is that… Stephanie’s ghost?” Aishat’s mom muttered to herself with uncertainty written all over her face. “But why would it go to Mrs. Alagbe’s house? Unless… unless it’s looking for something or someone.”

Aishat, who had been standing and watching her mom displaying intently, suddenly widened her eyes when her mom mentioned Stephanie’s ghost.

She couldn’t believe what she was hearing from her mom. “How… how did you know her name is Stephanie, Mom?” Aishat asked, with surprise all over her face.

“I… I don’t know, Aishat. It just came to me that it might be Stephanie,” her mother continues.

Aishat’s mom took a deep breath with her eyes gazing into her past.

“Aishat, come sit with me for a moment. I want to tell you a story from my own past, something I have never shared with you before.” Aishat mom persuaded her.

“It’s about a time when I was around your age, and it might help explain little things about our neighbor Mrs. Alagbe and her first daughter, Stephanie.”

“You see, Aishat, when I was young, I went through some difficult times alone. I faced some challenges that shaped me into who I am today. And Mrs. Alagbe our neighbor was a kind and supportive friend during the time I needed her the most.”

“When I moved to Lagos, I was pregnant with you and alone by myself. Dad had chased me away from home for getting pregnant at age 17, and I had nowhere else to go.”

“That was when I met Mrs. Alagbe, who took me in at her former house before she moved to this new one next to us now.

“She gave me a guest room in her house, free food, and I would always clean the house and assist her with cooking because her job was very demanding.”

“Mrs. Alagbe was also pregnant at that time too, and we bonded over the years until I became like a sister and family to her.”

“We gave birth around the same time too, and our daughters, my Aishat (you) and her Stephanie, both grew up playing together. I had never met Mrs. Alagbe’s husband before; he was always a busy man and hardly come around.

“You and Stephanie would always play together for hours and were inseparable. It was always a joy watching you both grow together as kids.”

“We left Mrs. Alagbe’s house when you were five years old and she wanted to travel abroad for a month. She had given me the capital we used in running our business till today, and I am always grateful to her.”

“But somehow, we were still low on finances, and I couldn’t ensure a swift education for you anymore when Stephanie had already started schooling at a tender age. You know it had never been easy with our business right.”

“Many years later, I met Mrs. Alagbe again after we had both lost each other’s contact since she traveled abroad for a month.

“She had already moved out of her former house immediately she returned from abroad, and moved to the one next to our apartment now. She saw me again at the market and asked about you and your education.”

“After a long talk with Mrs alagbe, she told me about this apartment we are in now and said she would love me to occupy it because of how close it is to hers, and because we are already like sisters who love to see each other often.”.

“Aishat, your school fees are not solely on me. How do you think we are able to afford such an expensive school like Christ the King High School? That’s because Mrs. Alagbe is still partly supporting me even till now.”

“So now you see why we are so close with Mrs. Alagbe, our neighbor, and why we go there often. It’s because our relationship dates way back from the past.”

“However, after our reunion since we met in the market and she asked about you and also told me to move closer to her apartment, I asked about Stephanie too, and she felt bad.”

“She didn’t go into detail about how it all happened, but she said Stephanie somehow has a traumatic brain injury which has since then put her in a coma and unresponsive to treatment.”

“According to her story, it’s been 5 years since Stephanie has been in a vegetative coma-like state, meaning she is not completely dead. But if that ghost, who is about your age, that I just saw walk into Mrs. Alagbe’s house is Stephanie, it could only mean that she is dead, which I do not pray for, especially to someone who has been so good to me and you.”

Aishat was filled with emotions after listening to her mother’s story. She was in shock and could barely speak up.

“It’s Stephanie’s mom; it should be Mrs. Alagbe’s daughter. She is in my class and always sat in the back row with me… There was another ghost who sat with her too; I think his name is Chris.”

Aishat’s mom’s expression turned grave after listening to her daughter. Her mind raced with all sorts of implications. “Are you sure, Aishat? Absolutely sure?” she asked, her voice filled with concern.

Aishat nodded. “I am certain she is the one, Mom. I am positive it’s Stephanie, and she has been trying to communicate with me, but I just keep ignoring her, like you said I should do since I started seeing ghosts like you mom.”

There was absolute silence between Aishat and her mom. “That is your childhood friend, Aishat,” her mother managed to say with her voice full of sad emotions.

Light fades out.

What do you think?
