‘I bought the Wonderskin lip stain’s new shades to see if it lives up to my original favourite’

The day I’ve been eagerly anticipating is finally here – viral brand Wonderskin has launched new shades of its iconic lip stain. As a devoted fan of several original colours, I couldn’t wait to try out a fresh shade. I snapped up one of the already trending additions to the colour range as soon as it hit the market.

Wonderskin unveiled a new shade this month called Hush, which is described as a neutral brown. This sounded perfect for me, as I usually opt for nudes and browns for my daily makeup look. Priced the same as the previous shades I’ve purchased, I was eager to get my hands on this colour and give it a whirl – and I’m over the moon with the results.

Currently retailing on Amazon for £18, this highly-rated product offers a wide array of shades to pick from. In my previous Wonderskin review, I used my go-to shade, Lovely, before switching to the festive burgundy-red Divine over Christmas.

Now, I’ve been itching to try out the shade Hush. As someone who leans towards cool-toned and darker hues and often chooses nude or brown lip stain over brighter reds and pinks, I was delighted to discover that Wonderskin was adding a brown shade to its extensive colour palette.

Like most lipsticks, especially lip tints and stains, it’s recommended to exfoliate or use a lip mask before applying. With the warm weather causing my lips to be drier, I found that this highly pigmented product clung to the chapped skin—not exactly the look I was going for. So, give your lips some love with a scrub or mask before you start staining, reports the Mirror.

The lip stain comes with a doe foot applicator, and the colour of the liquid can seem quite daunting at first, but don’t let it put you off. When you first open the tube, it looks like a metallic blue/purple shade, and I won’t lie, the first time I tried Wonderskin, I was a bit nervous about what would happen if the blue didn’t wash off. But I took the plunge, and now that I’m familiar with this product, I’ve found that applying it is a breeze.

As someone with naturally pale lips and skin, I was interested to see how this brown shade would enhance my appearance, as it seems like a shade that would suit people of colour well.

The applicator is slightly larger than those on most of my liquid lipsticks, so my first attempt at applying this stain required intense concentration to avoid smudging it all over my face. Even though I’ve had plenty of practice since then, the size of the applicator still requires a steady hand, particularly around tricky areas like the lipline or corners.

If you happen to apply the stain in the wrong place, don’t fret – it can be easily wiped off if you act quickly. I found a makeup wipe to be a lifesaver for any slip-ups. But remember, like most dark lipsticks, this shade requires careful application to avoid unwanted smudges across your face.

The general rule of thumb is to let the stain sit for at least 30 seconds, but I’ve found it’s quite flexible. For my first try, I left it on for a full minute as I was aiming for a rich hue. If you’re after a more subtle wash of colour or don’t want the stain to last too long, you can remove it after 20-30 seconds.

And if the colour isn’t as bold as you’d like, just add another layer to boost the pigment. Curious to see how deep I could take this shade and whether it would lean more brown than pink, I applied a second coat and left it on for about another minute.

According to the ads, once the mask has dried, you can attempt to peel off the blue cast. However, I found this a bit challenging—if you talk or move your lips once it’s dry, it cracks, so it doesn’t always come off in one piece. But it’s easy to remove with a makeup wipe or a damp cloth; just be gentle if you’re wearing foundation.

When it comes to the final result, this lip stain leans more towards a darker pink than a pure brown. However, its shade is influenced by your natural lip colour, enhancing it with a tint rather than completely transforming it like a lipstick would.

This wasn’t a letdown for me—I was quite taken with the natural brown/pink look it created, which closely mirrored my favourite shades from other lipsticks I use.

In line with my past experiences with Wonderskin, the stain stayed put for well over 24 hours and remained unscathed through meals and drinks, making it a hassle-free lip product for days when you’re not in the mood for constant touch-ups.

You can snag my new go-to shade from Amazon, Wonderskin, and Beauty Bay, all retailing at the same price of £18.
