If there’s one thing I can’t handle, it’s the cold. This makes winter a bit of a challenge, especially when temperatures have been dipping into the negatives for weeks on end.
As someone who spends quite a lot of time outside, I’ve been on the hunt for the ultimate winter jacket that ticks all the boxes. I’m talking waterproof, warm, and still looking stylish even when I’m knee-deep in mud. And It seems I may have stumbled upon the holy grail of winter jackets – Columbia’s Unisex Powderkeg II Remastered 3-In-1 Waterproof Insulated Jacket.

The moment I saw this on the Columbia website, I knew it was a match made in heaven. Despite its £270 price tag, you’re essentially getting three (or rather four) different jackets in one, which equates to roughly £67.50 per jacket if purchased separately.
This is because the Powderkeg II 3-In-1 Jacket features a detachable liner jacket that’s fully reversible and can be worn independently in two distinct styles. With a lightweight puffer on one side and a vibrant trendy fleece on the other, you’re left with four wearable options: the fleece, the puffer jacket, the outer jacket alone, or the complete jacket with the lining zipped in.

The outer jacket is your ultimate winter companion, packed with everything you need for harsh weather. It features Columbia’s Omni-Tech technology, which is both waterproof and breathable with fully sealed seams, ensuring not a single drop of water gets through.
Even worn on its own, this jacket keeps you warm and dry, while staying light enough to stash in your backpack. It has velcro-adjustable cuffs to keep your wrists warm, an elastic hem to block out the cold, and zippered pockets for your essentials.
For extra warmth, simply zip in the liner, and you’ll get an ultra-cozy fleece lining that’ll keep you shockingly toasty. I wore it out in -2°C weather with just a thin sweater underneath, and I didn’t feel the cold at all.

But honestly, my favorite part is the fleece liner. It’s got that effortlessly cool vibe, with a colorful, patterned design that would be fab even on its own. Made from sherpa fleece, it’s lightweight, easy to roll up and pack, and features zippered pockets for added convenience.
On the flip side, the quilted puffer-style side of the liner also has its own zippered outer pockets and offers a laid-back, stylish look. Fully insulated, it’s perfect for staying warm while looking good.
If you’re an outdoor enthusiast, the Powderkeg II Jacket is a must-have. It’s perfect for activities like hiking or long walks where your body temperature can fluctuate. You can easily switch between layers to regulate your body temperature and be prepared for any weather conditions. I managed to reattach the liner to the jacket in under two minutes on my first try, so it’s easy to adjust on the move.
The liner is also reversible, and can be worn as a puffer jacket

While I believe it’s worth every penny of its £270 price tag, I know it might be a bit steep for some. If you’re after more budget-friendly options, the Men’s Juell 3-In-1 Shell And Insulator Jacket from Helly Hansen is now £168, down from £240.
Alternatively, the Alaskan Womens 3 in 1 Long Waterproof Jacket is now just £99.99, reduced from £219.99, and available in six different colours. For a versatile option that’s suitable for both the office and the great outdoors, the Anthology 3-in-1 Parka Coat resembles a waterproof trench coat and features a removable fleece gilet lining, reports the Mirror.
However, for me, the Columbia’s Unisex Powderkeg II Remastered 3-In-1 Waterproof Insulated Jacket has won me over – it’s all I’ll be wearing this winter.
