‘I’ve ditched my full-coverage foundation for this new skin tint and I’m obsessed’

‘I’ve ditched my full-coverage foundation for this new skin tint and I’m obsessed’

My daily routine typically involves a medium-coverage foundation, but when I’m aiming for a more natural glow, the best skin tints are my go-to. These gems offer a light-as-air feel and subtle coverage, usually blending colour pigments in a water or gel-based concoction.

Over time, I’ve given quite a few a whirl, but my common issue is that they just don’t last very long on the skin; once the ‘water’ component has been absorbed or evaporated, they can leave a patchy finish. But this new one is a game-changer.

Popular beauty brand Milk Makeup has just unveiled its Hydro Grip Gel Tint, a lightweight, layerable base that not only hydrates and imparts a dewy sheen but – much like the viral sensation Hydro Grip Primer – promises to last for 8-12 hours. With 15 adaptable shades, it even caused such a stir pre-launch that the brand released it early to a waitlist exceeding 12,000, reports the Mirror.

I was among the fortunate few who got a sneak peek before it hit the shelves, and here’s my candid review (spoiler: it’s a total winner)…

Pros Skin looks dewy and radiant Blends really well ‘Sets’ on the skin quickly Lasts all day Really natural finish You can see the colour of the actual product through the tube Cons The texture does change ever so slightly throughout the day It could be a little more moisturising This skin tint is an absolute dream to apply, gliding on effortlessly. I like a dense foundation brush for application, but it’s just as easy with your fingertips – and the results are simply stunning: instant smoothness, a radiant glow and a natural yet polished look.

It feels wonderfully light and moisturising without being greasy or too slick, offering a lovely light-to-medium coverage that gently blurs imperfections. For the more persistent flaws, you might want to use a concealer though.

The longevity of this product is really something to write home about. I’m used to skin tints that sort of diminish as the day rolls on, sitting awkwardly in fine lines or clinging to dry patches, but this gem stands above the rest. It may not look as immaculately fresh by evening as it did at dawn, but it outlasts any other I’ve put to the test. Plus, it doesn’t smear onto your clothes’ collars, which can happen with tinted moisturisers.

I think Hydro Grip Gel Tint would suit most skin types too, depending on what other products you use with it; it layers well over a rich face cream or SPF for drier skins, while oilier complexions can apply a little powder over the top, and it sets nicely. It also works brilliantly with Hydro Grip Primer, as you’d expect.

I also love the packaging; it’s in a handy squeezy tube that’s perfect for on-the-go touch-ups, with little windows on the tube let you see the colour inside – so helpful.

If you’re scouting around for more top-notch skin tints this spring, allow me to point you towards the Kosas BB Burst Tinted Gel Cream, £34. Our shopping writer Grace can’t get enough of it, declaring, “As soon as I tried this I knew it was going to become my new staple. Featuring copper peptides and squalane, this hydrating formula provides a glowy, natural-looking base that feels just like skincare.”

On the hunt for a budget-friendly option? Give Maybelline Super Stay up to 24H Skin Tint Foundation + Vitamin C, £13.99, a whirl – our tester says it boasts “impressive staying power that stands up to a long working day or a big night out, but still gives that natural barely there look”.
