What is the eTA?The eTA is an electronic travel authorization needed for citizens of certain countries who don’t need a traditional visa to enter Canada. It’s linked directly to your passport and allows you to stay in Canada for up to six months, whether you’re traveling for tourism, business, or just passing through.

Permanent residents of Canada and U.S. citizens or Green Card holders are also exempt, but they must have the right documents to prove their status. So, if you’re traveling with a U.S. Green Card, don’t worry about applying for an eTA.
If you fall into the category of visa-required travelers, stateless individuals, or holders of alien passports, you will need to apply for a regular visitor visa instead of an eTA.
