Meet Aminata Kane, Visa’s new senior VP

Aminata Kane was recently appointed senior vice president and head of Western and Central Africa at Visa, effective September 4, 2025.

She will lead Visa’s newly established sub-regional team, covering 23 markets across four key offices in Abidjan, Accra, Kinshasa, and Lagos.

“We are excited to have her lead this dynamic region and believe that her strategic vision will help enhance our efforts to create more accessible and innovative digital payment ecosystems,” said Andrew Torre, Visa’s regional president for Central and Eastern Europe, Middle East, and Africa.

Kane is a recognised leader in digital financial services and telecommunications, bringing over a decade of executive experience from Orange’s operations in the Middle East and Africa.

Before Visa, she was the chief executive officer of Orange Money Group, the fintech arm of Orange in the Middle East and Africa. She oversaw mobile money, banking, and fintech activities across 17 countries and is the Chairman of Orange Bank Africa.

From 2018 to 2022, she was the CEO of Orange Sierra Leone and the chairman of the Board of Orange Mobile Finance Sierra Leone, and under her leadership, Orange Sierra Leone became the market leader with improved growth and profitability.

Kane has championed initiatives that empower youth and women through technology, establishing the Orange Foundation and the Orange Digital Centre in Sierra Leone. Kane began her professional journey at Goldman Sachs, then joined McKinsey & Company as a consultant in Paris, where she developed deep expertise in financial strategy, transformation, and market expansion.

She was a strategy consultant with McKinsey & Company in France and Africa, where she designed strategies and operations for telecommunication and technology providers, banks, and consumer goods manufacturers in Europe and West Africa.

She is also a graduate from HEC Paris, earned her MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management, and is an MIT Legatum fellow. She is recognised as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum and has recently been named as one of the Top 100 Women CEOs in Africa.

In 2020, she won the Africa CEO of the Year Award organised by the AfricaCom/AfricaTech Festival.
