Microsoft Set to Layoff 9000 Employees

Microsoft has announced that it will lay off approximately 9,000 employees worldwide as part of its second wave of job cuts this year. The decision comes as the tech giant continues to respond to ongoing economic challenges and shifts within the technology sector.

In a related development, Judson Althoff, Microsoft’s Chief Commercial Officer and head of global sales, is set to begin a two-month career break in July. Microsoft has clarified that this leave was planned well in advance and that he will return to his role in September.

Tech Industry Layoffs 

The wave of layoffs in the global tech industry, which began in 2023, continues to ripple through 2025, with many major firms restructuring and downsizing. Earlier this year, Google laid off hundreds of staff in its Platforms and Devices division, impacting teams behind Android, Pixel, and Chrome.

A Google spokesperson commented, “These changes are part of our efforts to operate more effectively and adapt to the evolving market.” According to an independent tracker, over 27,000 tech jobs were cut between January and April this year alone, with February seeing the highest monthly losses.
