Mohini Ekadashi commemorates the divine episode where Lord Vishnu assumed the enchanting form of Mohini to distribute the nectar of immortality (Amrit) among the gods, thereby preventing it from falling into the hands of demons. Observing this Ekadashi is believed to absolve devotees of sins and aid in attaining Moksha (liberation).
2. Significance of Mohini Ekadashi
Fasting: A strict fast is observed, abstaining from grains, rice, barley, and certain vegetables like onions and garlic. Some devotees opt for a Nirjala fast (without water), while others may consume fruits and milk .
Morning rituals: Bathing before sunrise, often with a paste of sesame seeds (Til), is customary.
Worship: A Kalash (sacred pot) adorned with a red cloth is placed before idols of Lord Vishnu and Lord Rama. Devotees light lamps, offer flowers and fruits, and recite prayers.

Apart from the tale of Lord Vishnu’s Mohini avatar, another legend speaks of King Dhrutimaan’s son, Dhrishtabuddhi, who led a sinful life. After being exiled, he encountered Sage Kaundinya, who advised him to observe the Mohini Ekadashi fast. Following the sage’s guidance, Dhrishtabuddhi was absolved of his sins and attained salvation.

Observing Mohini Ekadashi is believed to offer immense spiritual merits, equivalent to donating a thousand cows or undertaking significant pilgrimages. It is said to cleanse the mind and soul, helping devotees overcome obstacles and leading them towards a path of righteousness and liberation.
