Moro had an obvious historical trace to Akui compound, iremo, Ile ife. A direct royal descendant, and one of pioneer ife rulling houses
Origbo is one of the sections which make up ife. Constituted the so called the “Origbo Meje” consist of of: Ipetumodu,Edunabon,Moro,Asipa Akinlalu,yakooyo and Isope.
Moro was believed to have come from the experience of the great ancestor, ‘Ojigidiri lambua’ while he was looking for suitable settlement during his hunting exercises.
Ojigidiri was a brave man, an itinerant hunter, and a crown prince from Ile Akui, Iremo, Ile ife.
The modern Moro town was formally a thick forest that form a dwelling home for wild animals. According to some oral histories, the place called Ewuru, was a jungle and favourite arena where animals eat “ORO” fruits and drink from ‘Odo Abata’.
It is widely believed that; Ojigidiri had formed Moro before others came to join. It was just like a temporary abode, a camp-like site where he smokes his hunted animals and rest for a while before he moves back to Ife.
The term, Moro was extracted from the spoken dialect of the ife man, Ojigidiri lambua.”NIBE NI MORO” literary meaning: I temporarily settled here.
And “Atetekan” was as a result of people’s (mostly the ifes) route description. Moro ya tetekan ba ti n bo latife. Meaning: the Moro we first met while coming from ife. Later, MORO-ATETEKAN.
Ojigidiri was conferred the Sooko title which enabling him the customary right to the Ooni stool. And same reason while Moro has the right to also install the Sooko title.
Moro had made rapid growth before Ojigidiri was presented by the Osinkola rulling house and was crowned the 37th Ooni of ife. But before he left, he made his friend who descended from ifon to take administrative control of the town.
Moro was formally two divisions then. Moro Oke and Moro Odo. The upper and lower Moro. It consists of many groups who had come from parts of the Yorubas.
Moro had witnessed many developments as a result of its centre for academics. A giant in entire Origbo territories, being the land of nobilities.
Some prestigious traditional titles includes: Oosa,Olugbon, Olukotun,Agba-Akin,Odofin,Loogun, Balogun,Asalu, Morigi,Sooko and Baales.
