Nigerian comedian, singer, and skit maker Lawal Michael Nasiru Bolaji, popularly known as Nasboi, has launched an unusual public campaign in a bid to secure a music collaboration with Afrobeats superstar, David Adeleke, famously known as Davido.
On Wednesday, May 28, 2025, Nasboi announced via his social media pages that he would be embarking on a 36-day journey across Nigeria’s 36 states, kneeling in front of government secretariats as a show of dedication and to appeal for collaboration, a verse from Davido on his new song project.
Nasboi, known for songs like Small Money and Umbrella, revealed this daring move stems from his longstanding admiration for the music star. He recalled how his journey to fame began in 2019. This was when he started mimicking Davido’s voice in comedy skits. This strategy inadvertently shot him to limelight as a comedian rather than the musician he originally aspired to become.
“In 2019, I started mimicking Davido to get his attention for my music, but the videos blew me up as a comedian… (God’s plan). I am back to plea with 001. Bless me with a verse for this song, king. I will be kneeling across 36 states for 36 days. I pray this dream comes to pass,” Nasboi wrote in a heartfelt Instagram caption, urging his fans to tag Davido daily in solidarity.
To kick off his campaign, Nasboi shared a photo of himself kneeling with a placard at the Osun State Government Secretariat, marking Day 001. On Thursday, May 29, he proceeded to Kano State, continuing his mission with the same placard appealing for Davido’s attention.
The campaign has since caught the eye of Davido himself. He reacted to Nasboi’s post in the comment section with a teasing remark, writing: “Set up.”
Nasboi’s bold move has sparked conversations across social media. Fans and celebrities are rallying behind him. They are hoping the DMW boss grants him the much-anticipated verse before the 36-day journey concludes.
