Niger Delta Eye News:
A Tribute to Friendship and Military Distinction
(For General Martins Tam Woboke)
As I watched Brigadier General Tam Waboke’s pulling-out ceremony from the Nigerian Army yesterday, a flood of pride and nostalgia engulfed me. Ah, time! How it flies by like a sneaky little rascal! Back in the late ’90s, when Tam Woboke was a fresh-faced 30-year-old captain and I, a wide-eyed 21-year-old student at the University of Calabar, we formed a bond that felt like it had been brewed for ages. Our friendship was beyond just kinship. We shared exciting experiences. His knack for turning my car into a mobile pantry was a mixed grill of annoyance and delight. He would always stock the car with fuel and goodies, and my pocket with some change. Captain Tam Woboke was more than just a friend; he was an exceptional big brother.
And let’s talk about military magic. Apparently, they’ve got some secret stash of anti-aging elixir hidden away. Even now, as he bids adieu to his uniform, he looks more like the cheerful young captain from our early days than the General of today. Perhaps, it’s the classified, military-grade moisturiser they keep under wraps.
Congratulations, Brigadier General Waboke. Your military career was one of remarkable distinction. The Ijaws are absolutely proud of you. May retirement bring you even grander adventures and a trunk overflowing with divine blessings.
