Nigerian Box Office Hits ₦3.48 Billion in Q1

The Nigerian film industry is off to a strong start in 2025, with cinemas across the country earning ₦3.48 billion in just the first three months of the year.

This was reported by the Cinema Exhibitors Association of Nigeria (CEAN).

Compared to the same period in 2024 (₦2.25 billion), this is a 55% increase, and more than double what was made in Q1 2023 (₦1.5 billion).

It’s a sign that more Nigerians are going to the movies, and Nollywood is growing stronger.

It also shows a steady rise in cinema visits since 2023, with better access to movie theatres and more exciting films to watch.

Nigerian movies continue to pull big crowds. Actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele remains a top draw, following her success with A Tribe Called Judah.

She continued to shine in Q1 2025, alongside stars like Toyin Abraham and Timini Egbuson, who both had strong releases.

International films also did well, with hits from Disney and Marvel topping the charts.

If the trend continues, this could be a major year for both Nollywood and international cinema in Nigeria—both in box office earnings and in global recognition.
