Some police officers have attacked and injured Yakubu Mohammed, a PREMIUM TIMES reporter, during the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest in Abuja on Thursday.

The officers struck Mohammed with the butts of their guns and batons, causing him a head injury.

Speaking to SaharaReporters, Mohammed said, he was filming the chaotic scene when the police began tear-gassing protesters, who responded by hurling back the canisters.

“I was filming the violent moment when the police were tear-gassing the protesters and the latter were also hurling back the canisters,” he narrated.

“Despite explaining that I’m a pressman, they brutalised me, hit me with gun butts on my head and shoulder until they seized my phone,” he said.

He was then forced into a police van with four other detained individuals. “I was then hurled into a police van where I met four other arrested persons,” Mohammed added.

A few minutes later, he was released with an intervention of an unidentified fellow journalist, Mohammed said.
