Nigerian TikToker Illegally Remanded In Prison After Power-Drunk Senator, Ned Nwoko Accused Him Of ‘Insulting His Wife Regina’

The lawyer had challenged the Magistrate on the propriety of the remand order granted to the police prosecutor working for the Senator.

A tiktoker, Timothy Gabriel, has been remanded at the Keffi Prison in Nasarawa State for allegedly insulting Regina, wife of the senator representing Delta North senatorial district in the Nigerian Senate, Ned Nwoko.

SaharaReporters learnt that Gabriel was sent to the prison by the Magistrate despite a protest by his lawyer.

The lawyer had challenged the Magistrate on the propriety of the remand order granted to the police prosecutor working for the Senator.

“Nigerian big man, Ned Nwoko has instigated the jailing of a Tiktoker called Tumma. Nigerian activist, (Omoyele) Sowore was present in his usual selfless resistance against injustice and oppression. However, the police even subtly told Sowore to abandon the case, to him, it wasn’t worth it, but Sowore emphasised that every Nigerian is entitled to fair treatment.

“Tumma’s lawyer challenged the Magistrate on the propriety of the remand order granted to the prosecutor. He told her that it was inappropriate for her to issue a remand order to the investigators who claimed that they have not finished investigating the offense Tumma committed.

“The lawyer further told her that it is inappropriate to jail Tumma because every Nigerian has a right to be presumed innocent until proven guilty. He reiterated that every Nigerian also has a right to liberty and fair hearing. He told her that it will be unfair to jail a a Nigerian simply because a person of influence lodged a complaint against a common citizen, also especially because the police claimed that they have not found any charge against Tumma.

“The police prosecutor attempted to blackmail the lawyer in court, he suggest that the magistrate should even try me for contempt of court for making the points I made because he couldn’t imagine someone challenging his enablers. Tuma’s lawyer urged the Magistrate to dispel the impression that she is colluding with the police prosecutor and handling a matter emotionally rather than legally.

“She refused to accede to the prayers that she should reverse the remand order. Whatever arrangements that was made seem to be more concrete than the position of the laws with which the lawyer confronted the Magistrate.

Tumma has been previously detained for 50 days by these same people who do not have regard for the constitutional right of Nigerians.

“He refused to succumb to oppression, rather he courageously fought back his oppressors and now they have continued to use state institutions against him. I wish our leaders would treat all its citizens equally, I wish that state apparatus would not be used to intimidate and bully common men. I wish the law enforcement agencies, the police, would divert their energy to dealing with issues of insecurity like the ugly incident in Benue State where over 200 Nigerians were killed for nothing.”

Also speaking, Sowore, who was with the TikToker at the FCT Police Command said Tumma faces the prospect of rotting in one of Nigeria’s most notorious prisons — the Nigerian Correctional Center, Keffi, Nasarawa State — “simply because he crossed swords with Ned Nwoko’s youngest wife and Nollywood star, Regina Daniels.”

The former presidential candidate said, “On Wednesday, June 16, 2025, a grave human rights violation perpetrated by APC Senator Prince Ned Nwoko involved the Nigeria Police Force and the despicable FCT judiciary, which I witnessed firsthand at the Magistrate Court in Wuse Zone 6 in Abuja.

“This incident highlights a disturbing pattern of influential individuals leveraging state institutions to suppress the rights of ordinary citizens.

“A day before, I visited the FCT Scorpion Commander’s office in the police area known as Abattoir, staffed and led by ACP Victor O. Godfrey, to secure bail for Timothy Gabriel, a Nigerian youth and TikToker. Despite assurances from the Commissioner of Police of FCT, Adewale Ajao, that Mr. Gabriel would be charged the following day, neither the prosecutor nor any charges materialized as expected.

“Later in the day, the prosecutor appeared, struggling to produce documents, and we discovered, to our chagrin, that a 14-day detention order had been secretly obtained from the Magistrate around 5 p.m., despite our presence since noon. Tuma and Barrister AK Musa, his lawyer had arrived even earlier

“When the prosecutor attempted to transfer Mr. Gabriel to prison authorities, his lawyer, AK Musa, immediately challenged the Magistrate on the legitimacy of such an order for a case slated for arraignment.

“The Magistrate struggled to explain her actions, acknowledging that they frequently issue “detention orders” for cases they ultimately lack jurisdiction over, particularly for serious offenses like rape, but Tumma didn’t commit rape; his offense was that he insulted Regina Daniels, the wife of a Nigerian big man. AK Musa vehemently questioned her judgment, highlighting the impropriety of jailing someone due to the influence of a powerful individual like Ned Nwoko, who he asserted had conspired with the FCT police command.

“In response, we initiated a protest outside the courthouse, refusing to allow Mr. Gabriel to be sent to Keffi prison under a backdoor detention order. Overwhelmed, the prosecutor agreed to return Mr. Gabriel to the Abattoir police station.

“The following day, Thursday, June 19, 2025, I was in court for a separate, time-wasting criminal trial initiated by Ned Nwoko and the Nigerian police. Notably, the same prosecutor who had overseen Mr. Gabriel’s detention the previous day recused himself from my case, claiming he had a “running stomach,” which further underscores the questionable nature of these legal proceedings.

“I recall a recent meeting with senior Ministry of Justice officials who disclosed that Senator Ned Nwoko had made frequent attempts to influence the Minister of Justice by providing lists of individuals he wished to see imprisoned before trial. The FCT police and the Nigeria Police Force hierarchy have caused immeasurable harm to numerous citizens by assisting Senator Ned Nwoko in ruining lives.

“In this instance, Timothy Gabriel faces the prospect of rotting in one of Nigeria’s most notorious prisons — the Nigerian Correctional Center, Keffi, Nasarawa State — simply because he crossed swords with Ned Nwoko’s youngest wife and Nollywood star, Regina Daniels.”
