Nigerians Are Missing Out on Oppo N5, The Slimmest Foldable Smartphone In The World23 April 2025 at 11:00The Oppo Find N5 is a foldable Android smartphone with top-notch specs, impressive battery life, and fast charging capabilities. If you’re thinking beyond Tecno and Infinix, here’s what you should know before buying. The names Tecno, Infinix, and Itel practically dominate conversations in the Nigerian mobile phone market. You can walk into any phone shop or scroll through Jumia, and those three are front and centre.
They’re everywhere, because they’re affordable, easy to repair, and tailored for our local market. However, the truth is that there’s a world of premium Android phones out there that many Nigerians are overlooking, and Oppo is one of them.
Their latest release, the Oppo Find N5, tells us that Oppo is not here to play. It’s a foldable phone (yes the kind you can open up like a mini tablet), and it’s packed with features that are similar to Samsung’s most expensive devices.
Here’s everything you need to know about it, explained in simple, clear terms.

Design and BuildThe Oppo Find N5 is one of the slimmest foldable phones ever made. When folded, it’s like a regular phone – slim and easy to hold. But when you open it, it transforms into a mini tablet with a massive 8.12-inch screen. It’s just 4.2mm thick when unfolded, basically the width of a pencil, thinner than even the iPad Pro M4. That means it slips easily into your bag or pocket, and even one-handed use isn’t a struggle.
It features a tough nano-crystal glass screen on the outside, while the inside (the foldable part) utilises flexible plastic. The back is either made of real glass or eco-friendly leather, and the hinge, which folds, is crafted from durable titanium alloy, ensuring it won’t snap or wear out easily. Oh, and it’s water-resistant, so rain or spills won’t ruin it (IPX8 and IPX9 certified).
At 229g, it’s also lighter than most book-style foldables. Oppo even customized the USB-C port to fit into its sleek frame, without compromising sturdiness. Instead of the usual glass back, you get a luxe “aerospace-grade fiber” finish in either matte Cosmic Black or Misty White.

DisplayThe main display inside is an LTPO OLED panel, which essentially provides super-rich colours, deep blacks, and smooth scrolling. It supports over 1 billion colours, with features like:
Dolby Vision and HDR10+ (for cinema-like picture quality)
120Hz refresh rate (everything feels faster and smoother)
Up to 2100 nits brightness (you can see clearly even under harsh sunlight)
There’s also a cover display (the screen you use when the phone is folded shut), which measures 6.62 inches. It is sharp, colourful, and even brighter than the inner one (up to 2450 nits). Both displays support a stylus, so you can write, sketch, or take notes like you’re using a tablet.
PerformanceAt the heart of the Find N5 is the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, one of the fastest chips currently available. It’s built with 3-nanometre technology, which essentially means it’s extremely powerful yet uses less battery. So if you’re gaming, editing videos, or switching between apps, this phone handles it all without lag.
You get two options for memory:
12GB RAM with 256GB storage.
16GB RAM with either 512GB or a massive 1TB storage. RAM is the phone’s built-in brain power for multitasking. Storage is where all your photos, videos, apps, and files live.)
Note: There’s no memory card slot, so you can’t expand storage. Some online users are unhappy about this, especially given the price.

CamerasIf you’re serious about taking great pictures, the Find N5 will not disappoint. It has three rear cameras:
50MP main lens – super sharp for everyday shots.
50MP telephoto lens – lets you zoom in (3x optical zoom) without losing quality.
8MP ultrawide lens – captures more in one shot which is excellent for landscapes and group selfies.
It also utilises Hasselblad colour calibration, which is essentially a sophisticated method of ensuring your photos appear naturally balanced, without being overly edited or washed out. It even has a colour sensor that helps your pictures look more lifelike.
Video recording is top-notch, featuring 4K resolution with HDR10+ and Dolby Vision, allowing you to capture professional-level footage even in low-light conditions.

Selfie CamerasThere are two 8MP selfie cameras – one inside and one on the cover screen. Both are ultrawide, so you get more background or more faces in group shots. They record in 4K and 1080p, with built-in video stabilisation, which is great for content creators.

Battery LifeOppo squeezed in a massive 5600mAh battery into this phone, which is larger than most phones have and even some tablets. You can go a full day of heavy use without worrying about charging which is perfect for the frequent National Grid collapses Nigeria experiences.
It supports:
80W wired fast charging (full charge in about 50 minutes)
50W wireless charging
Reverse charging, so you can top up your earbuds or friend’s phone with your own.
In short, battery life is not a problem here.
ConnectivityThis phone supports 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G, which means it is compatible with all Nigerian networks, including MTN 5G. It also includes:
Wi-Fi 7 (latest and fastest internet connection)
Bluetooth 5.4 (better sound and faster file sharing)
NFC (tap to pay with your phone)
Infrared blaster (turn your phone into a TV remote)
USB-C port with ultra-fast file transfer
The phone also supports satellite messaging, allowing you to send texts in areas with no mobile signal. This feature will be particularly useful for travellers in rural areas.
Other FeaturesStereo speakers with Dolby Atmos – loud, clear, and perfect for music and movies.
Side-mounted fingerprint sensor – quick and easy to unlock.
Water-resistant up to 1.5 metres for 30 minutes.
No headphone jack (a little annoying, but expected in modern flagships).
No FM radio (you’ll need to stream).
How Much Does It Cost? The Oppo Find N5 costs roughly ₦3 million, depending on the exchange rate. It’s not cheap, but it’s equipped with premium features that you won’t find on a ₦300k phone. Price: ₦3,599,000. Where To Buy: Shop Select.
Should You Buy It?If you want a phone that:
Looks futuristic
Doubles as a tablet
Handles every app, game, and camera challenge
Charges quickly and lasts all day
However, be mindful of the lack of memory card slot and no official repair centres yet in many parts of Nigeria. Still, if you’re shopping for quality and you’re tired of the same old Tecno/Infinix rotation, Oppo’s foldable is the upgrade you didn’t know you needed.
The Oppo Find N5 is a smart, stylish, and seriously underrated device. If you’re in the market for something new, bold, and cool, don’t sleep on this one.
