…The case is under investigation..PPRO

By Ike Uchechukwu CALABAR

The Police Command in Cross River says it has arrested and detained a Corporal who had failed to report to a new station in Kaduna State Command since 2015.

The detained corporal who was alleged to have been carrying out illegal activities using his uniform in Calabar, the Cross River state capital was also accused of impersonation.

Corporal, Buba Adamu, who had since promoted himself to the rank of Superintendent of Police, was said to have been transferred from Cross River Command to Kaduna State Police Command in 2015.

Adamu is said to have been operating as a “mobile police officer” without any supervision nor reporting to a specific police command since 2015.

During this time, he has been receiving his salary despite not reporting to his new station.

Adamu’s lid was blown open when some concerned members of the Nassarawa Community, a Hausa/Fulani settlement in Calabar Municipality had suffered from his illegal activities.

The people raised the alarm when they learnt that the Police command was under pressure to release Adamu.

They feared that releasing Adamu would be detrimental to their safety and well-being as he has allegedly been intimidating a lot of people in the area.

They claimed many people have fallen victim to his alleged nefarious activities, as he has been assuming the role of a Divisional Police Officer without any oversight.

When contacted, the Cross River State Police Public Relations Officer, ( PPRO) SP Irene Ugbo confirmed Adamu’s detention.

Ugbo said the Corporal will be in detention while the investigation on the matter continues.

“It is true that the said officer was transferred from Cross River to Kaduna state in 2015 and no one knew he didn’t report at his new station ever since.

“There are allegations that he has been carrying out criminal activities around Bacoco, Nassarawa area of Calabar, all this will be investigated to prosecute him.

“You are aware that the Police is trying to rebuild its image and no one man will be allowed to spoil that.

“I can assure you that the right thing will be done on this matter upon completion of the investigation,, if he is found wanting the law will take its cause,” she said.
