Real Madrid are pushing to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold before the start of the FIFA Club World Cup, with the England defender set to leave Liverpool when his contract expires this summer.
The 26-year-old has confirmed he won’t renew his contract with Liverpool and is expected to join the Spanish giants as a free agent. With the Club World Cup starting on June 14, just 16 days before his Liverpool contract ends on June 30.
According to BBC Sport, Madrid have approached Liverpool and are considering an offer of around £850,000 to facilitate Alexander-Arnold’s early departure. The Spanish club may also cover the wages Liverpool owe the right-back for the remainder of his contract, as talks between the clubs remain amicable.
FIFA has scheduled a short initial transfer window from 1 to 10 June to allow clubs participating in the Club World Cup to finalise their squads.
Real Madrid’s desire to include Alexander-Arnold in the tournament provides Liverpool with an opportunity to secure a fee for a player they risk losing for nothing.
