Rochelle Humes’ polka dot outfit from Next resembles iconic Pretty Woman look

Rochelle Humes’ polka dot outfit from Next resembles iconic Pretty Woman look

With spring in full swing, many of us are getting ready to attend weddings, garden parties and saying yes to any and every event that allows us to bask in the sunshine and dress up nicely. As one of those people, I stumbled upon atop and skirt co-ord set from Next that can work separately as chic additions to any outfit but together emulates a much-loved look seen on Julia Roberts in the iconic 90s film Pretty Woman.

I’m talking about the scene where Julia’s character goes to a polo match in a stunning brown and white polka dot sleeveless dress and Next’s Brown Glossy Satin Polka Dot duo, when worn together (with the blouse neatly tucked into the skirt), looks remarkably similar – an exciting discovery for any Pretty Woman fan.

Made up of a £32 halter top and £50 maxi skirt from Rochelle Humes’ latest collection with the high-street brand, both elements of the ensemble are made with a polyester satin fabric, giving a lovely luxury feel ideal for dressy events.

The skirt and blouse both come in three different lengths – petite, regular and tall – ranges from sizes 6 to 22, with the blouse proving very popular indeed with a number of sizes having sold out. Next is quite good at restocking sold out items so keep checking back.

One welcome detail the skirt has is that its elasticated waistband is thick enough if you want to recreate Julia’s look with a chunky brown belt. The length is maxi – as opposed to the film’s midi/knee-length – and measures from the waistband to the hem at 103cm.

As for the top, it has a floaty style that isn’t figure hugging – making it great if you struggle with bloating or have a big dinner coming up and want to indulge. With ruching at the neckline, it’s flattering over the bust and neatly shows off the shoulders.

Tie at the nape of the neck with satin fabric, the blouse’s back matches the front with a racer-style cut. Paired with gold jewellery and shoes, the skirt-top combination is ideal for a wedding from spring through to October. On its own, the top would look great with some wide leg white jeans and wedges, while the skirt would be fitting with a crisp white blouse or even graphic tee, for a more casual look.

Tucked into the skirt, it’s an eye-catching look and while there aren’t any reviews of the set on Next’s website, we don’t think it’ll be long before the compliments come flooding in. The only thing we think would improve the skirt is pockets – an nifty detail many of us love.

Next’s polka dot skirt and top set from Rochelle Humes’ latest collection looks similar to Julia Roberts’ dress in Pretty Woman

Shop the top and skirt here from Next. Now if you love this look but prefer a dress as opposed to a skirt and a top, Boden’s Anya Sleeveless Linen Dress has a similar cut but instead of being maxi, its skirt comes to just above the knees. It’s currently on sale for £94.50 with the code KN4H.

For something with long sleeves, try Boden’s £48.38 Leandra Jersey Midi Dress. If you want a polka dot dress with a more subtle pattern, Nobody’s Child does a jacquard style dress with brown polka dots against a satin brown background. The Brown Polka Dot Jacquard Helena Midi Dress costs £69 and is available in sizes 6 to 18.
