Royal family LIVE: The Princess of Wales set to return to public duties this week

Updated: June 9, 2025Jun 9, 2025, 10:21 PM GMT+1

Good morning, royal watchers! It’s Sharnaz, and I’m kicking off our live blog ahead of a very exciting week in the royal calendar.

All eyes, of course, will be on this coming Saturday as we are expecting to see the Prince and Princess of Wales accompanied by Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis at this year’s King’s Birthday Parade, also known as Trooping the Colour!

Trooping the Colour is always one of the most exciting royal events of the year, and the sight of the Wales children is consistently a highlight for fans around the globe.

After their appearance at last month’s 80th anniversary VE Day parade, royal watchers are eager to see George, Charlotte, and particularly little Louis, who has become known for his entertaining antics on the Buckingham Palace balcony!

Our royal correspondent Danielle Stacey reveals the significance of this outing, saying: “It seems likely that we will see the Prince and Princess of Wales at Trooping the Colour, given it’s one of the biggest royal events in the summer calendar. The event was Kate’s first public event in 2024 amid her cancer treatment, and we’ll be looking forward to seeing all of the interactions during the procession and the flypast.”But before all the pageantry of Trooping the Colour, we’re expecting to see King Charles later today. The monarch is set to visit Lancaster Castle, where he will be taking part in an ancient ceremonial tradition.

And for those following royal events further afield, today also marks the Royal Run in Denmark, an annual running event where members of the Danish Royal Family often participate alongside the public.

We’ll be bringing you all the updates as the week unfolds, so stay tuned for more details and, of course, all the stunning photos from the big day!

Busy weekend! Let’s recapSurprise royal engagementWe had to give Lady Marina Windsor her own post, as her engagement news took us all by surprise on Sunday morning. The granddaughter of the Duke and Duchess of Kent casually announced the happy news on Instagram, sharing several photos of herself and her rarely seen boyfriend, Nico Macauley, while showing off her unique ring on that finger.

She simply captioned the post: “Very happy!” And why did she choose to announce it on June 8th? It just so happens to be the Duke and Duchess of Kent’s 64th wedding anniversary,  how sweet!

The appearance marks her return to the mainland after a weekend in La Palma and Tenerife. For the occasion, she chose a sleek black-and-white outfit that flattered her figure and accentuated her sun-kissed glow.

During the outing, which he attended without Queen Camilla, the monarch praised 101-year-old D-Day veteran Richard Brock as “amazing.” Recognizing him from a previous encounter in Normandy, the King encouraged Mr. Brock to “keep drinking the whisky.” Mr. Brock, who served with the East Lancashire Regiment, was attending the event with his son, Tony, who confirmed the King’s light-hearted whisky advice. Charles arrived at the castle to a warm welcome from crowds who had gathered since early morning.

Diana’s go-to designer speaks to HELLO!Make sure you check out our exclusive interview with Princess Diana’s designer in this week’s issue of the magazine.

While the OG Princess of Wales was renowned for her amazing fashion sense, her approach to style did lead to some disagreements!

One of Diana’s go-to designers, Jacques Azagury, gave us the scoop about dressing the late royal.

Duchess Sophie steps out© Max Mumby

The Duchess of Edinburgh pictured in Northampton Duchess Sophie is always the style queen of the summer – and her latest look is no exception! The Duchess of Edinburgh just stepped out in Northampton, visiting Market Square, Northampton Bike Park and Growing Together Community Project.

Our Fashion and Beauty News Editor, Laura Sutcliffe, has been following Sophie’s style for over a decade. She says: “Sophie knows what colours suit her best; and anything light and fresh looks magnificent with her blonde hair.

“Pastels and lighter colours always look gorgeous on the 60-year-old, and ultra-feminine floral prints like this latest look are a great example. Teaming a classic jacket and skirt is a feminine combo that nails both timeless separates, with an injection of summer prettiness in one hit.”

We’ll be taking style notes…

Princess Anne’s equestrian comebackWe’ve been having a debate in the office about who we’re most excited to see at this year’s Trooping the Colour parade. While most of us are die-hard Princess Kate fans (and can’t wait to see what she’ll be wearing), there’s only one answer to the question for me – Princess Anne.

The hardworking royal, who will celebrate her 75th birthday later this summer, is preparing for a significant milestone this weekend, as she is expected to ride horseback. This marks the first time she’ll be pictured on horseback since her horse-riding incident last June. A brave woman!
